Vizianagaram , December 26: District Collector Dr. BR Ambedkar expressed his anger over the management of hospital waste. He ordered the officials to seize hospitals that do not follow the rules. The Collector clarified that the management of hospital waste is a very crucial process and it has to be disposed of carefully and within the stipulated time so as not to endanger public health .
A review meeting of the District Monitoring Committee on Bio-Medical Waste Management was held at the Collectorate Conference Hall on Thursday under the auspices of the District Pollution Control Board. Pollution Engineer Bibi Saritha explained the steps taken in the district for the management of hospital waste. She said that special garbage bins in specified colors should be arranged in each hospital and the waste should be disposed in them. A PowerPoint presentation was made on this.
District Collector Ambedkar said that garbage collection should be done from about 560 private hospitals , government hospitals and animal husbandry hospitals, which have more than 20 beds in the district . He clarified that this garbage will have to be collected and removed within a fixed period of 48 hours. He ordered all the hospitals to register by January 5 and start waste removal. He ordered that hospitals that do not comply with these regulations should be seized. Municipal Commissioners , District Officers and Tahsildars were advised to inspect private hospitals in their respective areas. They were also told to mandatorily enter the details of the garbage collected every day in the relevant app. The Collector clarified that the waste coming from hospitals should not be visible anywhere outside and should be disposed of in the manner prescribed by the government.
